15-Year-Old Jaime Perez Dead, Timothy Leal Arrested in Bakersfield DUI Car Crash

 
BAKERSFIELD, CA (February 12, 2023) – Police stated that Jaime Perez died, Donald Olsson was hurt, and Timothy Javier Leal was arrested after a DUI crash on Alta Vista Drive on February 4.

According to the Bakersfield Fire Department, the fatal crash occurred at 7:21 a.m. in the 2200 block of Alta Vista Drive.

Based on reports, a stolen 2018 Kia Optima was speeding on Alta Vista Drive when it ran a red light. Soon after, it crashed into a southbound Toyota Tundra, causing it to flip over and come to a stop against a house.

After that, the driver of the Optima – identified as 18-year-old Leal – got out of the vehicle and fled the scene.

Responders found 15-year-old Perez of Bakersfield in the passenger seat with injuries, who later died at the scene.

The driver of the Tundra was pinned inside his vehicle. It took about 20 minutes before the responders freed him. He was identified as 80-year-old Olsson of Bakersfield.

Leal was located just a few miles away from the accident scene. He was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. After that, he was arrested for numerous charges including suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
