Jacob Vela Killed in Goodyear Motorcycle Crash on Estrella Parkway and Van Buren Street
GOODYEAR, AZ (November 7, 2024) — A 38-year-old man identified as Jacob Vela died in a motorcycle accident on Tuesday, October 22.
According to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, the collision occurred shortly before noontime near Estrella Parkway and Van Buren Street.
A Goodyear police SUV with lights and siren activated responded to a call. When the officer approached the intersection while the light was red, a motorcycle driven by Vela crashed into the front side of the patrol SUV.
First responders brought Vela to the hospital in critical condition, where he later died. Officers said he did not wear a helmet.
Paramedics also transported the officer to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators said Vela failed to yield to an emergency vehicle. In addition, they said he might have been speeding when the collision happened. He was not under the influence.
Deputies continue to investigate the accident at the request of the Goodyear Police Department.
