Custer County Paramedic Andrew Fernandez Killed in Car Accident
CUSTER COUNTY, CO (November 7, 2024) — A paramedic identified as 39-year-old Andrew Fernandez died in an accident on Saturday, October 19.
According to the Colorado State Patrol, the incident occurred at about 8:45 a.m. on Highway 69 about five miles northwest of Westcliffe.
CSP said Fernandez traveled southbound on Highway 69 on the way to work. Then he lost control of his vehicle. It went into the oncoming lanes and crashed with a pickup traveling northbound.
Fernandez died in the incident. Meanwhile, two people in the pickup truck sustained minor injuries in the collision.
First responders in Custer County Emergency Medical Services said Fernandez had been a paramedic for more than 10 years. He leaves behind a wife, Justine, and a 2-year-old daughter. Friends set up a GoFundMe in his honor and to help his family.
Colorado State Patrol continues to investigate the accident.
