CALAVERAS, CA (March 2, 2023) – Gurjot Kaur and Rudy Mercado were both killed in a car crash on Highway 4 on Monday.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened around 6:40 a.m. near Dunton Road.

Based on a report, a Honda sedan was heading east towards a left bend in the roadway when the female driver attempted to pass a slow-moving vehicle.

Soon after, she drove beyond the double yellow lines and caused poor visibility. As a result, the sedan struck a Toyota pickup head-on.

Authorities identified the driver of the sedan as 21-year-old Kaur of Stockton. They also identified 51-year-old Mercado of Copperopolis as the driver of the pickup.

Responders confirmed that both died at the scene.

The other vehicle that Kaur initially passed was not included in the accident.

No other information is known at this time. However, an investigation is ongoing.
