Juana Torres de Calderon Dies, William Pederson Arrested in Bakersfield DUI Crash

 
BAKERSFIELD, CA (March 2, 2023) — Juana Torres de Calderon died while Lucy Martinez sustained injuries after a suspected DUI crash on Highway 65 north of Famoso Road on early Tuesday, February 14.

The fatal incident involved a 2022 Ram and a Toyota, according to the California Highway Patrol which received a report at around 3:50 a.m.

Authorities said the Ram, driven by 52-year-old William Pederson, traveled northbound on Highway 65 at a speed of 55 miles per hour.

The Ram then went over the solid double yellow line into the southbound lane. It wound up coming in a collision course with the Toyota, operated by 53-year-old Calderon who had 50-year-old Martinez on board.

The force of impact inflicted fatal injuries to Calderon, who died at the scene.

Martinez survived but suffered moderate injuries, which required treatment at the Kern Medical.

Pederson also emerged from the accident alive and with only minor injuries.

Officials then arrested Pederson on suspicion of driving under the influence. He would then face second-degree murder and other charges.
