Gay Attebury Killed, Charles Long and Two Others Hurt in Four-Vehicle Crash on 19th Street and University Avenue

 
LUBBOCK, TX (April 17, 2024) — Authorities identified 67-year-old Gay Attebury as the man killed in a four-vehicle crash on Monday, April 8.
 
According to the Lubbock Police Department, the fatal multi-vehicle accident occurred at 19th Street and University Avenue at around 6:42 a.m.
 
An LPD press release said a pick-up truck driven by 54-year-old Charles Long, an SUV driven by 55-year-old Lee Murphy, and another pick-up truck driven by 57-year-old Reynaldo Flores were stopped in the left turn lane. They were all headed north in the 1900 block of University Avenue.
 
At the same time, Attebury drove north in the 1900 block of the University. Then her vehicle collided with Long’s vehicle. The incident caused a chain reaction of crashes into the other cars.
 
Responding crews found Attebury with serious injuries. They later pronounced her dead at the scene, LPD said.
 
The three other drivers involved sustained minor injuries in the incident. They all refused transportation to the hospital.
