Maritime Gig Parade Accident on Harborview Drive in Gig Harbor

 
GIG HARBOR, WA (June 17, 2024) – Officers confirmed that five people suffered injuries in an accident during the Maritime Gig Grande Parade on Harborview Drive on June 1.
 
The Washington State Patrol said the collision happened at Rosedale Street around 11:45 AM. Based on a report, a commercial van driving in the parade hit a trailer in front of it.
 
Witnesses said the van driver inadvertently hit the accelerator instead of the brake pedal. They believed the driver of the van experienced a medical emergency behind the wheel.
 
As a result, two victims suffered minor injuries and three had moderate injuries. Gig Harbor Fire and Medic treated them at the scene before sending four of them to local hospitals.
 
The collision prompted organizers to cancel the remainder of the parade while emergency responders helped patients.
