72-Year-Old Faila Butunga identified in Fatal Phoenix Car Crash

 
PHOENIX, AZ (January 20, 2023) Phoenix police identified 72-year-old Faila Butunga as the victim who died in a multi-vehicle crash on 51st Avenue on January 1.
 
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the collision happened at Clarendon Avenue just after 3:30 PM. Based on a report, Butunga was a passenger in a vehicle headed southbound on 51st Avenue at the time of the crash.
 
Due to unknown reasons, the male driver drifted the vehicle into the northbound lanes. At that point, it hit a second car driven by a teen before both struck a third vehicle.
 
As a result, Butunga died in the incident.
 
Paramedics transported two children who were in the same car as Butunga to the hospital for treatment.
 
Officers did not find signs of intoxication. Instead, they believed the weather was a factor in the crash.
 
As of now, an investigation into the case is ongoing.
