Elaine Martinez Dead, Datyrik Sheppard Injured in Littlefield Car Accident

 
LITTLEFIELD, TX (April 29, 2024) — 19-year-old Elaine Maribel Martinez from Sudan died in a two-car accident on Wednesday, April 17.
 
The Hockley County Sheriff’s Office said the accident occurred just after 9:00 a.m. on North Highway 385 and East FM 597.
 
The Texas Department of Public Safety said an 18-wheeler driven by 38-year-old Datyrik Terell Sheppard, of Lubbock, moved north on the highway. Then the truck drifted to the left and crossed into the southbound lanes of travel. After that, it crashed into Martinez’s Nissan Versa.
 
Martinez suffered serious injuries in the crash and died at the scene.
 
Sheppard received treatment for minor injuries.
 
Authorities listed the road and weather conditions as dry and clear when the accident happened.
