Douglas Norwood, Janet Norwood, and Carol Mitchell Killed in Three-Vehicle Accident in Tyler

 
TYLER, TX (April 30, 2024) — Douglas Norwood, Janet Norwood, and Carol Mitchell died in a three-vehicle crash on Thursday, April 18.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident occurred just before 5:00 p.m. on State Highway 155.
 
Texas DPS said 84-year-old Douglas Norwood, of LaRue, pulled out of a private drive onto State Highway 155. Then he failed to yield the right of way to 42-year-old Srikar Mapakshi, of Houston.
 
After that, Mapakshi’s 2014 Honda Accord slammed into Norwood’s 2016 Ford Fusion. The impact caused the Fusion to cross over into the southbound lane. Then a 2018 Hyundai Elantra driven by 33-year-old Cassandra Tait, of Palestine, struck the Fusion.
 
Norwood and his passenger, 78-year-old Janet Norwood, of LaRue, died at the scene.
 
Responding officers also pronounced a passenger in Tait’s vehicle dead. They identified him as 71-year-old Carol Mitchell, of Lake Havasu City, AZ.
 
Meanwhile, emergency responders transported Mapakshi, Tait, and Tait’s second passenger, 54-year-old Lisa Crawford, 54, of Palestine, to an area hospital for treatment of their injuries.
 
Authorities continue to investigate the accident.
