Danna Forbis Dies, Deborah Castillo Suffer Injuries in Highway 70 Crash
PLUMAS COUNTY, CA (August 17, 2022) – Danna Forbis died while Deborah Castillo suffered injuries in a car crash on Highway 70 on Tuesday, July 19.
Based on the report received by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the fatal collision occurred approximately at 12:01 p.m. on Highway 70, east of Sierra Springs Drive. Authorities confirmed that both victims were passengers of a vehicle driven by Leonard Forbis, a 42-year-old man from Reno.
Initial investigations revealed that the vehicle heading eastbound on Highway 70 crossed the double yellow lines in between the eastbound and westbound lanes. As he attempted to get back in the lane, he steered to the right, entering the dirt road on the south side of the highway.
CHP furthered that L. Forbis overcorrected to the left and rotated, occupying both lanes of the highway. As a result, the vehicle tilted down on its front and crashed into a pine tree in a valley along the north side of the highway.
Castillo, 34, got out of the car on her own, while medical and fire personnel helped L. Forbis out of the vehicle. Both were transported to a hospital to receive treatment.
Danna Forbis died at the scene, police said.
Authorities arrested L. Forbis with charges for driving under the influence of drugs and manslaughter.
Officials took both lanes to a one-way traffic control for almost two hours while the investigation was ongoing. In the meantime, CHP encouraged anyone with information about the accident to contact them at 530-252-1900.
We send our sincerest sympathies and condolences to the loved ones of Danna Forbis.
