Holly Mahnke Dies, Rachel Norton Sustains Injuries in Newman Car Crash

 
NEWMAN, CA (August 17, 2022) — Holly Mahnke died while driver Rachel Norton suffered injuries following a two-vehicle crash at an intersection on Eastin Road and Stuhr Road on Friday morning, July 15.

The fatal collision involved a 2015 Toyota and a Peterbilt tractor trailer, according to the California Highway Patrol which received reports of the accident at about 10:24 a.m.

Authorities said the 22-year-old Norton of Riverbank was driving the Toyota south on Eastin Road with Mahnke as a passenger.

The Toyota then came to a halt at the intersection upon seeing the stop sign. However, Norton drove out onto Stuhr Road for reasons still under investigation.

58-year-old Daniel Forte from Los Banos drove the Peterbilt on Stuhr Road crashed with Norton and hit the side of the Toyota. The momentum of the impact pushed the Toyota off the roadway. Then, it overturned before coming to a rest on its wheels.

Mahnke died at the scene after sustaining life-ending injuries.

Norton received major injuries, prompting authorities to transport her by an air ambulance to the Doctors Medical Center.

Meanwhile, Forte was not harmed in the accident.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the intersection only has stop signs on Eastin Road and not Stuhr Road. This could be the reason motorists tend to “underestimate how fast the vehicles are going on Stuhr Road” after coming off I-5, officials said.

Everyone involved were wearing seatbelts during the crash. The factors surrounding the incident remain unavailable at this time as investigation continues.
