James Torrey Jr. Hit, Killed by Car on Highway 53 in Lake County; James Nielsen Arrested

 
LAKE COUNTY, CA (August 18, 2022)James Torrey Jr. died following a suspected DUI crash on Highway 53 on Wednesday, July 20.

According to the Clearlake Police Department, the accident occurred around 1:00 a.m. on Highway 53 north of Dam Road. The fatal accident involved a Toyota Tacoma, driven by James Nielsen, and the pedestrian Torrey Jr.

Torrey Jr. suffered major injuries and died at the scene, police confirmed.

Nielsen sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the accident. However, initial investigation revealed that Nielsen was driving under the influence of alcohol. Police officers booked him at the Lake County Jail for a DUI and vehicular manslaughter charge. At the time, jail records show that he later on got out on the same day of his arrest.

Officials closed down a part of Highway 53 during the wake of the accident, but reopened again around 6:30 a.m.
