Daniel Muniz Arrested and Two Juveniles Hospitalized after Hit-and-Run on East Austin Street

 
KERMIT, TX (November 19, 2024) — Authorities arrested 17-year-old Daniel Muniz, of Kermit, after a hit-and-run on Thursday, October 31.
 
According to the Winkler County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred at around 9:05 p.m. in the 500 block of East Austin Street.
 
Officials with the Kermit Police Department and Winkler County EMS responded to the area. They then determined that a vehicle driven by Muniz struck two juvenile pedestrians.
 
After that, Muniz allegedly continued driving following the accident. He did not check on the victim nor remained on the scene until law enforcement arrived.
 
Paramedics brought the two juveniles to the Winkler County Memorial Hospital with major traumatic injuries. After that, they airlifted both to Lubbock by Aerocare in critical condition.
 
WCSO said a Good Samaritan tailed the suspect vehicle after the incident. Then they reported the location of the suspect to the authorities. Officials with the Kermit Police Department found the Muniz. They then brought him into custody without further incident.
 
After that, the Kermit Police Department charged Muniz with two charges of Accident Involving Serious Bodily Injury, a third-degree felony.
