Damien Sanchez-Balderas Involved in Fatal DUI Crash in Aurora

 
AURORA, CO (March 5, 2024) – The Aurora Police Department arrested 31-year-old Damien Sanchez-Balderas following a fatal crash on East Alameda Avenue on February 25.
 
According to the Colorado State Patrol, the crash happened at Potomac Street around 8:40 PM. Based on a report, Sanchez-Balderas was driving an Infiniti sedan east on East Alameda Avenue during the crash.
 
Due to unknown reasons, he ran a red light at the intersection and hit a Ford Focus turning left to travel south on Potomac Street. Subsequently, the Infiniti lost and hit a signal pole.
 
As a result, a woman who was riding in the Infiniti died after being ejected and sustaining grave injuries. The Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office did not yet release her name, pending kin notification.
 
The driver of the Focus was not hurt while crews took Sanchez-Balderas to a hospital with minor injuries.
 
Later on, officers arrested the suspect on charges of vehicular homicide, reckless driving, driving under the influence, and driving a vehicle as a habitual traffic offender.
 
As of now, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
