Christopher Sanders Jr. Fatally Struck in Hit-and-Run on FM 54 and County Road K
ABERNATHY, TX (November 6, 2024) — 35-year-old Christopher Craig Sanders Jr., of Abernathy, died in a hit-and-run on Monday, October 28,
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the fatal incident took place on Farm-to-Market Road 54 and County Road K at around 5:00 a.m.
A news release said that investigators believe Sanders Jr. sat or walked close to the westbound lane of FM 54. Then an unknown vehicle or piece of farming equipment hit Sanders. After that, the vehicle fled the scene.
According to Texas DPS, Sanders died on the scene due to sustained injuries in the accident. As of 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, authorities are still searching for the vehicle and farming equipment involved in the crash.
DPS said that road and weather conditions were dry and clear when the accident occurred.
