Pedro Alberto Hernandez Struck, Killed Boy on Leawood Boulevard and Bissonnet Street
HOUSTON, TX (October 7, 2022) – Pedro Alberto Hernandez is facing charges for running over and killing a child on Leawood Boulevard near Bissonnet Street on October 1.
The Houston Police Department received a report at about 6:00 p.m. regarding a DUI accident in front of a laundromat in the 9700 block of Leawood Boulevard near Elmcroft.
According to the court documents, the 6-year-old boy was walking across the parking lot with his grandfather when 52-year-old Hernandez hit the child. The grandfather yelled at Hernandez, who drove back and forth, hitting the child three times. Reports also said that Hernandez stopped once while the wheel was on the child.
The grandfather reported that Hernandez smirked before he attempted to drive away, but the people around stopped him. The grandfather pinned him against the hood and waited for help to arrive.
Hernandez admitted that he drank some beer that night and was on his way to Washateria to meet someone who owes him money. He did not see the child, Hernandez said.
The suspect is a repeat DWI offender, according to reports.
Initially, the bond was $600,000 in total, but it was changed on Tuesday. The judge set his bond to $950,000; with $850,000 for the murder charge and $100,000 for the DWI.
