Brian Smith Identified in Fatal Motorcycle Crash on South Avenue in Tehama County

 
TEHAMA COUNTY, CA (June 13, 2023) – Officials identified 47-year-old Brian James Smith of Corning who died in a motorcycle and car crash on South Avenue on June 3.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened near Woodson Bridge around 2:00 PM.
 
Based on a report, Smith was driving a 2019 Harley Davidson motorcycle west on South Avenue prior to the crash. At the same time, 87-year-old Joseph M. Russo of Corning was traveling in a 1998 Buick eastbound on the same road.
 
As Smith made a left turn at Gardiner Ferry Road, Smith collided with the right front of the Buick. The bike then came to a stop lying on its left side facing northeast in the westbound lane.
 
As a result, Smith sustained grave injuries and died in the incident.
 
Russo suffered minor injuries.
 
Police said alcohol or drugs did play a factor in the incident. As of now, an investigation into the case is ongoing.
