DENVER, CO (March 25, 2024) — A child suffered injuries in a pedestrian accident on North Gough Avenue on Tuesday, March 19.
 
The incident took place on North Gough Avenue and Baseline Road near Escuela Bilingüe Pioneer Elementary at around 7:45 a.m.
 
Lafayette Police Department and Lafayette Fire Department responded to the scene. When they arrived, they said a juvenile boy with his mother tried to cross at a designated crosswalk with a crossing guard.
 
Then a driver moving eastbound on Baseline Road drove through the red light at North Gough Avenue. It resulted in the vehicle hitting the child.
 
The driver remained at the scene.
 
Officers said the boy sustained minor injuries from the incident. He was conscious and able to get in the ambulance. Paramedics then brought him to a local hospital for treatment.
 
As of writing, it is unclear if the driver will be cited.
 
Reports later said that the boy is an Escuela Bilingüe Pioneer Elementary student.
 
Authorities closed eastbound Baseline Road for a short time.
