One Killed, Benito Mercado Arrested in Austin Car Accident on Highway 183

 
AUSTIN, TX (January 19, 2023) – The Austin Police Department arrested 33-year-old Benito Mondragon Mercado after a fatal accident on Highway 183 on January 9.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened in the 3000 block of Highway 183 around 8:55 PM.
 
Based on a report, Mercado was driving a sedan on the highway prior to the crash. Due to unknown reasons, he collided with an SUV.
 
As a result, a passenger in the car with Mercado suffered severe injuries in the incident. The victim died at the hospital a short time later.
 
Officers arrested Mercado for intoxicated manslaughter. As of now, the case remains under investigation.
