Angele Southwell Killed and Kiana Pena Arrested after Elmendorf Hit-and-Run

 
ELMENDORF, TX (November 5, 2024) — A 62-year-old woman identified as Angele Southwell died in a hit-and-run on Saturday, October 19.
 
According to the Bexar County Sheriff’s deputies, the accident occurred on 4031 New Mathis Road at about 1:00 a.m.
 
Deputies said two women tried to attempt to cross the street. Then a vehicle struck them. After that, the driver fled the scene and did not render aid.
 
An arrest affidavit said one of the women was pulled out of the roadway by her husband. Then paramedics brought her to a local hospital where medical officers pronounced her dead. The medical examiner later identified her as Southwell.
 
Meanwhile, medics also transported the second woman to the hospital with serious injuries.
 
The arrest affidavit said that Southwell’s son gave authorities information about the accident and the suspect.
 
Upon additional investigation, authorities identified the suspect as 21-year-old Kiana Lee Pena. They said she worked as an Uber Eats driver when the crash happened.
 
Authorities arrested Pena for a collision involving injury after failing to stop and render aid in a fatal accident.
 
Pena later told authorities she attempted to avoid something in the roadway when she struck the women. However, she believed was a mailbox and left the area after she noticed her missing side mirror.
