Jose Sanchez Arrested, Anastacio Martinez Jr. Dies in Multi-Vehicle Accident in Mission
MISSION, TX (July 31, 2024) – The Mission Police Department identified 51-year-old Anastacio Martinez Jr. who died in an accident on West Expressway 83 on June 29.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened near La Houma Road around 9:00 AM. Based on a report, Martinez was driving an 18-wheeler semi-truck on the road prior to the crash.
At the same time, 18-year-old Jose Osvaldo Sanchez of Rio Grande Valley was driving a red Fiat. When Sanchez changed lanes without caution, he hit the truck and caused it to cross the frontage road. Subsequently, it entered a parking lot and crashed into a home. The crash also involved an unoccupied GMC truck.
As a result, Martinez suffered grave injuries and died in the incident.
Police said no one was in the property and it collapsed during the clearing operation.
Sanchez turned himself following his hospitalization. Police charged him with criminal negligent homicide, a state jail felony, and his bond was set to $50,000. He faces up to two years in prison along with a $10,000 fine.
As of now, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
