Bicyclist Amilcar Gomez Struck and Killed by Driver Alan Rios in Edinburg

 
EDINBURG, TX (July 18, 2023) – Officials identified 36-year-old Amilcar Gomez of Edinburg who died in a bicycle accident on Tower Road on July 9.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened at Trail Drive around 11:00 PM. Based on a report, 19-year-old Alan Nicolas Rios was driving a white Chevrolet Tahoe near the intersection at the time of the crash.
 
Due to unknown reasons, Rios struck Gomez who was riding a bicycle at that point. Subsequently, Rios fled the scene, without giving aid to the victim.
 
As a result, Gomez suffered grave injuries and died in the incident.
 
Officers later found Rios near Alamo Road and Texas Road. They arrested him on a charge of intoxication manslaughter and accident involving death.
 
As of now, the case remains under investigation. In addition, no other details are available.
