Alexis Lozano Arrested after 21-Month-Old Boy Killed in Covington DUI Accident
COVINGTON, WA (November 7, 2024) — Authorities arrested 19-year-old Alexis Andaluz Lozano after a fatal DUI accident on Monday, October 21.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the crash occurred at about 3:00 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of Highway 18 near the Southeast 256th Street exit.
Reports said the roads were wet and Lozano drove at speeds of over 100 miles per hour and lost control. Then his vehicle spun across the median and into oncoming traffic. After that, it collided with a vehicle occupied by a mother and her toddler.
The 21-month-old son died at the scene. Meanwhile, his 27-year-old mother sustained a broken leg, a fractured arm, and multiple broken ribs. Paramedics airlifted her to Harborview Medical Center, where she underwent surgery for her injuries.
Court documents said they found pre-rolled marijuana joints, along with other drug paraphernalia inside Lozano’s vehicle. In addition, the documents said he displayed signs of impairment from drug use.
Emergency responders airlifted Lozano to the hospital. Then they booked him into jail after his medical release. They charged him with vehicular homicide and vehicular assault.
