Abimael Santillian and Tanner Perez Dead after Palestine Head-On Accident
PALESTINE, TX (August 21, 2024) — Two East Texas men, Abimael Santillian and Tanner Perez, died after a head-on crash on Monday, August 5.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident occurred on Highway 19 between FM 2330 and FM 860 at about 11:00 p.m.
Texas DPS said that a Toyota Tundra driven by 19-year-old Santillian with 21-year-old Tanner as a passenger traveled south on Highway 19. Then it veered into oncoming traffic. It resulted in the Toyota crashing head-on with an 18-wheeler driven by 29-year-old Mohamed Simpara, of Brooklyn, New York.
Emergency responders pronounced Santillian and Perez dead at the scene. A GoFundMe has been set up for the Santillian family.
Simpara did not sustain any injuries in the incident.
Authorities on the scene said the 18-wheeler carried frozen chicken and it spilled its load when it flipped over. Responding crews have cleared all debris on the road. After that, officials reopened all closed lanes of Highway 19.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
