Juan Romero Identified in Fatal Accident with Garbage Truck in Toppenish

 
TOPPENISH, WA (May 9, 2024) – Officials identified 88-year-old Juan Romero of Sunnyside who died in an accident on Highway 97 on April 25.
 
According to the Washington State Patrol, the collision happened at Larue Road around noon. Based on a report, Romero was traveling eastbound on Larue Road at the time of the crash.
 
Due to unknown reasons, he failed to yield to an oncoming garbage truck. A crash occurred and he was not wearing a seatbelt.
 
As a result, Romero suffered grave injuries and died at the scene.
 
The garbage truck driver was not hurt in the incident.
 
Crews responded and closed both directions on the highway for several hours.
 
At this point, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
