Anna Byrd Fatally Struck in Amherst Pedestrian Accident

 
AMHERST, TX (August 11, 2024) — An 88-year-old Amherst woman identified as Anna Belle Byrd died in a pedestrian accident on Wednesday, July 24.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident occurred on FM 1055 shortly after 5:30 a.m.
 
Reports said Byrd walked along FM 1055. Then a Chevrolet Silverado pickup moving west on the roadway struck her.
 
Responding officers arrived at the scene and pronounced Byrd dead from sustained injuries.
 
Meanwhile, the pickup driver identified as 53-year-old Joe Lewis Gonzales, of Sudan, Gonzales was not hurt.
 
Officials said the posted speed limit in the area was 45 miles per hour. In addition, they said the road and weather conditions were dry and clear.
 
There are no reports of whether impairment contributed as a factor in the incident.
 
The investigation of the accident is still underway.
