Thidavanh Philavanh Killed, Leonardo Cruz Arrested after Tucson DUI Crash

 
TUCSON, AZ (August 11, 2024) — 49-year-old Thidavanh Anna Philavanh died following a DUI accident on Tuesday, July 23.
 
According to the Tucson Police Department, the collision occurred on South Kino Parkway and East Saint Maria Goretti Street shortly before 12:00 p.m.
 
Detectives determined during the investigation that a Chrysler 300 moved southbound on Kino Parkway. Then the driver, identified as 22-year-old Leonardo Daniel Cruz, drove left of center and into oncoming traffic. After that, the vehicle crashed into a Honda Odyssey and Jeep Wrangler that moved northbound.
 
When officers responded to the scene, they pronounced the driver the Honda Odyssey dead. Officers identified the victim as Philavanh.
 
Tucson Police said paramedics brought Cruz to the hospital with minor injuries. At the same time, they also rushed the driver and passenger of the Jeep Wrangler to the hospital with major injuries.
 
An officer evaluated Cruz for impairment and found out that he was under the influence.
 
Tucson Police said that after Cruz’s release from the hospital, they charged him with 2nd-degree murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and two counts of felony criminal damage.
 
In addition, Tucson Police said they currently held Cruz in the Pima County Jail on a $150,000 bond.
