Edgar Hatchel Fatally Struck in Lubbock Pedestrian Accident
LUBBOCK, TX (July 30, 2024) — A 73-year-old man identified as Edgar Hatchel died in a pedestrian accident on Erskine Street on Thursday, July 18.
According to the Lubbock Police Department, the incident occurred shortly before 10:00 p.m. near Erskine Street and North Englewood Avenue.
Investigators said that Hatchel tried to cross from the south side of Erskine Street. Then a passenger driven by 30-year-old James Woodruff hit him.
Responding officers arrived at the accident location. There they found Hatchel and then pronounced him dead at the scene.
There were no other injuries in the crash.
As of writing, there are no reports of whether intoxication or speed contributed as a factor in the incident.
LPD officers diverted the eastbound traffic on Erskine Street at Englewood Avenue.
Officials continue to investigate the case.
