Cyrys Wingate Identified in Fatal Crash on Highway 207 in Panhandle

PANHANDLE, TX (October 20, 2023) – Officials identified 70-year-old Cyrys Wingate of Hernando, Mississippi who died in a crash on Highway 207 on October 12.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened near 40 Freeway. Based on a report, Wingate was traveling north in a 2009 Lincoln Town Car SD on Highway 207 prior to the crash.

At the same time, a 2016 Mack truck tractor towing a semi-trailer was traveling south. Due to unknown reasons, Wingate failed to yield the right of way to oncoming traffic and tried to turn left onto the freeway service road.

The truck tractor then crashed into the Lincoln’s passenger side, forcing both vehicles off of the road. The crash caused the Lincoln to land on its left side underneath the truck tractor in a ditch.

As a result, Wingate suffered grave injuries and died at the scene.

As of now, the case remains under investigation. In addition, no other details are available.
