16-Year-Old Passenger Killed, 18-Year-Old Zayvion Smith Suspected of DUI in Garland Accident
GARLAND, TX (April 20, 2023) – Officers arrested 18-year-old Zayvion Smith of Dallas after a fatal accident on Garland Avenue on April 5.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened at Avenue B at approximately 10:30 PM.
Based on a report, officers tried to pull over Smith for a violation but he did not stop. Instead, he ran a red light and drove across a DART train track on Garland while the crossing arms were down. Subsequently, his car collided with another vehicle.
As a result, Smith’s 16-year-old passenger died from his injuries at the hospital.
Another passenger in his car and two other people from the other car suffered injuries and were transported to the hospital for treatment.
Police charged Smith with murder and possible additional charges.
As of now, the case remains under investigation. No other information has been released to the public at this time.
