Emiliano Malpica Struck and Killed by Suspected Hit-and-Run Driver Erik Hernandez-Escobar in Commerce City

 
COMMERCE CITY, CO (October 23, 2024) – The Commerce City Police Department identified 18-year-old Emiliano Malpica who died in a hit-and-run on 58th Avenue on October 6.
 
According to the Colorado State Patrol, the accident happened at Holly Street. Based on a report, Malpica and his family had the right-of-way traveling through the intersection during the crash.
 
Due to unknown reasons, an Audi struck their vehicle. Police said the driver and passenger of the Audi fled the scene.
 
As a result, Malpica suffered grave injuries and died in the incident.
 
The crash also left his 14-year-old brother and both his parents with serious injuries.
 
Police arrested the driver of the vehicle, 20-year-old Erik Hernandez-Escobar on leaving the scene of an accident involving death, vehicular homicide – reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident involving serious bodily injury, reckless vehicular assault, falsely reported ID to police, speed exhibition, driving with no insurance and failure to stop for a signal.
 
As of now, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
