Asaph Mecklenburg Dead, Eric Orange Hurt in Wrong Way Accident on 40 Freeway

 
OLDHAM COUNTY, TX (January 10, 2025) — 18-year-old Asaph Mecklenburg, of Pagosa Springs, Colorado, died in a crash on New Year’s Day.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the incident occurred at around 12:21 p.m. on 40 Freeway, approximately five miles east of Adrian.
 
The initial investigation determined Mecklenburg drove a 2013 Hyundai Veloster east in the westbound lanes of the 40 Freeway. Then it crashed head-on into a 2023 Ford Bronco traveling heading west.
 
Mecklenburg suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. His loved ones made a GoFundMe to help with the funeral expenses.
 
Meanwhile, paramedics brought the driver of the Bronco to Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo with serious injuries. Officials identified him as 34-year-old Eric Orange, of Mineola, Texas.
 
Authorities said that the weather conditions were clear when the incident happened.
 
The investigation of the incident is still underway.
