Fatal Semi-Truck Crash on Highway 327 in Silsbee, 17-Year-Old Maria Carter Identified

SILSBEE, TX (May 2, 2023) – Silsbee Police identified 17-year-old Maria Jaquez Carter as the Silsbee High School junior student who died in a crash on Highway 327 on May 1.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened at South 21st Street. Based on a report, Carter was driving a 2012 Mazda east on the highway before the crash.

As he approached the intersection, a 2018 Peterbilt tractor truck was also nearing the intersection while driving west on the highway. Police said the Peterbilt was carrying a retracted pole trailer, “piggyback” style.

Due to unknown reasons, Carter attempted to turn north onto South 21st and was hit on his passenger’s side by the Peterbilt.

As a result, Carter suffered grave injuries and died at the scene.

As of now, the case remains under investigation. In addition, no other details are available at this time.
