19-Year-Old Zaida Alvarez, Two Teens Survive Fatal Car Crash in Tulia

 
TULIA, TX (January 12, 2023) – A teen male died while three other teens were injured in a rollover crash on Highway 86 on January 8.
 
Officers identified 19-year-old Zaida Alvarez as one of the three teens who survived the accident.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened at approximately 4:00 AM. Based on a report, Alvarez was a passenger in a 2019 Chrysler 300 that was traveling west on the highway prior to the crash.
 
Due to unknown reasons, the vehicle veered off the roadway into the north ditch and hit a concrete culvert, causing it to vault into the air. Subsequently, the Chrysler landed on its left side and began to roll, ejecting two unsecured passengers.
 
As a result, a 15-year-old male from Tulia suffered grave injuries. Crews transported the victim to Swisher Memorial Healthcare System, where he died from his injuries.
 
Alvarez and two 16-year-old boys had serious injuries. Crews took them to Swisher Memorial Healthcare System for treatment.
 
Police are looking at speed and alcohol as factors. As of now, the case remains under investigation.
