10-Year-Old DeErick Williams II Dies after Austin Car Accident

 
AUSTIN, TX (February 21, 2024) — Police identified 10-year-old DeErick Williams II as the child killed in a car crash on Monday, February 12.
 
According to the Austin Police Department, they responded to a 911 call at around 7:20 p.m. about a crash near the 200 block of the southbound Highway 183 toll road.
 
A hatchback crashed into a sedan that had stopped in the middle lane near the highway with its vehicle hazard lights on. Williams II sustained injuries in the incident and later died.
 
According to the police, there was another child inside the sedan. However, they did not specify whether the child also had any injuries.
 
Authorities said the sedan’s driver was not hurt or intoxicated during the crash. Meanwhile, the driver of the hatchback had a minor injury. They cooperated with the investigation.
 
Police ask anyone with information about the collision to call the vehicular homicide unit at 512-974-8111.
