6 Hurt in Fatal Car Crash in Nacogdoches

 
NACOGDOCHES, TX (February 14, 2023) – Officers confirmed that a 2-year-old child died in a crash on FM 1638 on February 8.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened between a 2014 Volkswagen Passat and a 2021 Cadillac Escalade.
 
Troopers said the Volkswagen was traveling north on the road while the Cadillac was traveling south. Due to unknown reasons, the Volkswagen drove into the oncoming lane and struck the Cadillac head-on.
 
As a result, the 2-year-old in the Volkswagen died in the incident.
 
The Volks driver, 34-year-old Miranda Smallwood, suffered injuries. Crews took her to the hospital along with the Cadillac driver, 34-year-old Joel Wilson, his passengers Kara Wilson and three children.
 
As of now, no other details are available. In addition, the case remains under investigation.
