Police Chase Leads to Fatal Crash on Shields Avenue in Fresno, Andrew Calderon Arrested

 
FRESNO, CA (February 14, 2023) – Police arrested 40-year-old Andrew Calderon of Fresno following a fatal crash on Shields Avenue on February 9.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened at First Street around 11:00 PM. Based on a report, officers stopped Calderon’s Chevrolet Tahoe for a non-moving violation.
 
The passengers of the car initially provided officers with their information but Calderon suddenly sped off. Officers initiated a chase and later terminated it due to the high rate of speed. Subsequently, Calderon ran a red light at Fresno and collided with a Chevrolet Cruise.
 
As a result, the 20-year-old male driver of the Chevy died at Community Regional Medical Center. Officers did not yet release his name, pending kin notification.
 
Calderon suffered serious injuries and was also taken to CRMC. His passengers refused medical attention.
 
Police said Calderon was on active parole for felony domestic violence charges and had an outstanding no-bail parole warrant for his arrest. After his hospitalization, officers will arrest him on suspicion of felony evasion causing death, felony DUI causing death, and vehicular manslaughter.
