James Palumbo and May Lindal Hurt in Fatal Car Crash in Stevens County

STEVENS COUNTY, WA (November 11, 2022) – Police identified 46-year-old May Lindal and 63-year-old James Palumbo as the victims who survived a fatal head-on car crash on Highway 395 on November 8.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the collision happened at Jump Off Road around 10:00 AM. Based on a report, a 2006 Chevy Silverado was headed south on the highway at the time of the crash.

Due to unknown reasons, the driver failed to negotiate a curve, crossed the center line and hit into Palumbo’s northbound 2020 Nissan head-on. Subsequently, the impact ejected the Chevy driver and Lindal from their vehicle.

As a result, the 52-year-old man from Poulsbo who was driving the Chevy died at the scene.

Paramedics took Palumbo to the hospital by ambulance for severe injuries. Lindal also suffered serious injuries and was taken by helicopter to hospital for treatment.

WSP determined speed and poor weather conditions were the cause of the incident, with compact snow and ice on the roadways causing the driver to lose control during the turn.

We offer our sincere condolences to the bereaved families and friends of the victim.
