Qinglei Li Killed after Navasota Head-On Accident on Highway 105

 
NAVASOTA, TX (April 9, 2024) — A 53-year-old man identified as Qinglei Li, of College Station, died in a head-on accident on Monday, April 1.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash took place on Highway 105 near County Road 417 at around 9:00 a.m.
 
The initial investigation determined a 2001 Kenworth 18-wheeler traveled eastbound. At the same time, a 2016 Nissan Rouge and a 2024 Hyundai Palisade moved westbound.
 
After that, the Nissan crossed the center line and started traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes. Then it hit the Kenworth head-on. The Nissan was subsequently hit again by the Hyundai.
 
The Grimes County Justice of the Peace Mark Laughlin pronounced the Nissan driver, Li, dead at the scene. Texas A&M University confirmed on Tuesday that Li is a professor at their university.
 
Paramedics rushed the driver of the Kenworth to CHI St. Joesph Hospital – College Station with minor injuries.
 
Medics also transported the driver of the Hyundai to CHI St. Joesph Regional Hospital with minor injuries.
 
Authorities closed Highway 105 between Navasota and the Aggie Expressway/Highway 249 for around six hours.
 
The investigation is still underway. No additional information is available.
