Stephen Wesley Killed and Amy Gaudette Arrested after Vancouver Head-On Accident

 
VANCOUVER, WA (February 13, 2024) — A Vancouver man identified as 67-year-old Stephen M. Wesley died in a wrong-way crash on Saturday, February 3.
 
According to the Washington State Patrol, the accident took place on the 5 Freeway near Mill Plain Boulevard Exit at about 12:13 a.m.
 
WSP said Wesley drove his 1992 Honda Accord north on 5 Freeway. Then a 2015 Mercedes CL 2 moving southbound in the northbound lanes of the freeway struck his vehicle head-on.
 
The Honda eventually stopped on the right side of the 5 Freeway facing the wrong way. Meanwhile, the Mercedes came to rest a quarter-mile to the south.
 
The Vancouver Fire Department responded to the scene and discovered Wesley trapped in his vehicle. They used the Jaws of Life to free him from his vehicle in about 10 minutes.
 
After that, paramedics transported Wesley to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
 
Authorities identified the wrong-way driver of the Mercedes as 43-year-old Amy Gaudette, of Portland. They took her into custody on suspicion of DUI and vehicular homicide. She was not hurt in the crash.
 
Officers closed the northbound lanes of the 5 Freeway for about five hours.
