Firetruck Backs Into, Kills Firefighter Horace Wright in Abbott

 
ABBOTT, TX (May 2, 2023) – Officers confirmed that 71-year-old Abbott volunteer firefighter Horace Daniel “Dan” Wright died in an accident involving a firetruck on 35 Freeway on April 14.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash happened just south of the new Main Street Market around 7:18 PM.
 
Based on a report, a crew with the Abbott Fire Department responded to a stranded driver and helped with traffic control. As the firefighters were repositioning to provide better assistance, the fire truck struck Wright.
 
Texas DPS officials said Wright was transported to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest in Waco, where he was later pronounced dead.
 
According to Wright’s obituary, those who wish to make memorial contributions should donate to Abbott Volunteer Fire Department or Texas Line of Duty Death Task Force.
 
The investigation is active and ongoing. As of now, no other details are available.
