For unknown reasons, the Altima drove to the edge of the road and crashed into an eastbound freightliner truck on North Avenue. Both Gonzales and Rodarte succumbed to their injuries and died, CHP say. The driver of the truck was shaken, but did not sustain injuries from the crash. Authorities said the driver cooperated with the investigation. Authorities will continue to investigate. However, they do not believe that alcohol and drugs were a factor that led to the accident.
