Zachary Ornelas Identified in Fatal Crash on 98th Street in Lubbock

 
LUBBOCK, TX (December 18, 2023) – The Lubbock Police Department identified 24-year-old Zachary Ornelas who died in a crash on 98th Street on December 8.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened at University Avenue around 1:11 AM. Based on a report, Ornelas was driving an SUV north on University Avenue at the time of the crash.
 
Police said the SUV veered across multiple lanes of traffic before it hit a utility pole and a tornado warning pole.
 
As a result, Ornelas sustained serious injuries in the crash. Emergency crews transported him to University Medical Center, where he later died.
 
LPD said no other injuries were reported.
