Christopher Gadd Killed in Three-Vehicle Crash in Marysville

MARYSVILLE, WA (March 11, 2024) — A WSP trooper identified as 27-year-old Christopher M. Gadd died in a three-vehicle accident on Saturday, March 2.

According to the Washington State Patrol, Gadd was on patrol searching for DUI drivers when he died. The fatal crash took place on 5 Freeway near 136th Street at around 2:52 a.m.

The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office said an SUV moved southbound on 5 Freeway. Then it veered off the roadway onto the shoulder where it hit the parked WSP patrol vehicle.

Police believe the SUV driver traveled at a high speed. Then, he collided with the Gadd’s WSP patrol vehicle, killing the trooper.

Officials said another vehicle with six passengers was also involved in the incident and crashed with the SUV. Paramedics rushed the driver to the hospital with minor injuries. The other passengers were not hurt.

The Washington State Department of Transportation said the crash closed all southbound lanes in the area while authorities investigated. All lanes reopened at 12:05 p.m.

Authorities evaluated a 32-year-old Lynnwood man and took him into custody for vehicular homicide. A deputy said the driver admitted to drinking two beers and smoking weed earlier that night.
