Woman Killed after Houston Stolen Vehicle Crash on 10 Freeway near 69 Freeway

 
HOUSTON, TX (February 5, 2024) — A woman died after a stolen vehicle car crash on 10 Freeway on Wednesday, January 31.
 
According to the Houston Police Department, the crash happened on 10 Freeway near 69 Freeway and Chenevert Street at around 8:45 p.m.
 
HPD said officers said they performed a traffic stop on the stolen vehicle. Officers attempted to use a vehicle containment technique to box the driver in. However, he evaded the police and fled by driving the wrong way on Chenevert Street.
 
After that, the driver continued on Chenevert Street out of downtown and then went onto the westbound lanes of the 10 Freeway, heading east. Officers then decided to stop their pursuit due to safety concerns.
 
Officers soon received reports of a head-on collision on 10 Freeway east of 69 Freeway.
 
First responders transported at least five people to a hospital for treatment of injuries.
 
A woman, who was a passenger in the back seat of the stolen vehicle, died. Two other people in the vehicle fled.
 
The innocent driver involved in the collision was among those who got hospitalized.
 
Authorities took into custody the driver of the stolen vehicle. Investigators are still trying to determine the identities of those inside the car.
