HOUSTON, TX (January 23, 2024) – The Houston Police Department said 38-year-old Waswa Sula was found dead after a hit-and-run in the 3500 Hillcroft Street on January 2.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened around 9:40 PM. Based on a report, Sula was crossing the street outside a crosswalk at the time of the crash.
 
Due to unknown reasons, a silver Toyota Corolla struck him and fled the scene.
 
As a result, Sula sustained injuries in the incident. Paramedics said he was conscious and breathing when they transported him to a hospital.
 
Investigators said the hospital released him on January 7 but on January 13, Good Samaritans found him unresponsive on a sidewalk. Crews took him to a hospital, where he later died.
 
Police later located and identified the driver who hit him as Gabriel Mejia Cor. They took him into custody and then to the Harris County Jail.
 
As of now, the case remains under investigation. In addition, no other details are available.
