EL PASO, TX (January 23, 2024) — Horizon City Police Department officers arrested 19-year-old Ramon Garcia Gomez after a reckless driving crash on Tuesday, January 16.
 
According to HCPD, the incident started shortly before 11:30 a.m. An HCPD officer working along Eastlake Boulevard noticed a Volkswagen GTI and a black Chevrolet Camaro speeding. Both vehicles traveled at more than 100 miles per hour.
 
The officer reportedly attempted to pull both cars over. However, they swerved in and out of lanes. After that, they ran a red light at the intersection of Boulevard and Darrington Road.
 
Due to the recklessness of the drivers, the officer then decided to stop the pursuit. However, they took note of which direction the GTI went.
 
Officers in another unit searched the area where the vehicle was last seen. There they found that it crashed into a wall at 600 Emerald Sands in El Paso.
 
Officers arrested Gomez at the scene of the crash.
 
Meanwhile, officers said they were unable to find the black Chevrolet Camaro.
 
Authorities booked Gomez into the El Paso County Detention Facility. They then charged him with reckless driving and evading arrest/detention in a motor vehicle.
