Pedestrian Struck and Killed by DUI Suspect Victor De La Paz Rivas in Houston
HOUSTON, TX (July 11, 2024) – The Houston Police Department arrested 32-year-old Victor Hugo De La Paz Rivas after a fatal pedestrian accident in the 1100 block of Almeda Genoa Road on June 23.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened around 9:55 AM. Based on a report, Rivas was driving a gray Toyota Tacoma pickup truck at a high rate of speed westbound on the road at the time of the crash.
Due to unknown reasons, he struck a male pedestrian in a moving traffic lane.
As a result, the pedestrian suffered grave injuries and died at the scene. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences did not yet release the victim’s identity, pending kin notification.
Two juvenile male passengers in the Toyota – 4 and 7 years of age – were not hurt.
Officers said De La Paz Rivas showed signs of intoxication. They subsequently took him into custody and charged him with a felony.
