Mandy Cole Hospitalized after Three-Vehicle Accident in Steptoe
STEPTOE, WA (October 30, 2024) — 20-year-old Mandy Cole, of Belfair, sustained injuries in a three-vehicle accident on Monday, October 14.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the three-vehicle crash happened on Highway 23, about seven miles west of Steptoe, at about 11:36 a.m.
WSP said Cole drove southbound on Highway 23. Then she swerved into the northbound lane to avoid a brush fire in the area. After that, her vehicle crashed into a vehicle driven by 76-year-old James F. Kile from Saint John.
After that, Kile’s vehicle crossed into the southbound lane. Then a truck driven by 53-year-old Jennifer M. Hoffman, of Oakesdale, struck his vehicle.
Paramedics airlifted Cole with serious injuries to Sacred Heart Medical Center. Both Kile and Hoffman were not hurt. All drivers wore seatbelts at the time of the collision.
WSP reported that the unsafe lane change due to the brush fire caused the chain-reaction collision.
Officers said impairment was not a factor.
Authorities continue to investigate the accident.
